Reading Herbert Spencers book on education and came across a great quote explaining the questions that should be answered by education...
"In what way to treat the body; in what way to treat the mind; in what way to manage our affairs; in what way to bring up a family; in what way to behave as a citizen: in what way to utilize all those sources of happiness which nature supplies—how to use all our faculties to the greatest advantage of ourselves and others—how to live completely. And that being the great thing needful for us to learn, is, by consequence, the great thing which education has to teach. To prepare us for complete living is the function which education has to discharge."

One of Thomas Jefferson's earliest proposals, via Thom Hartmann's excellent book What Would Jefferson Do? calls for exactly this type of thing in a rather humorous and down-to-earth manner:
In a leter to J. Correa d Serra dated November 25, 1817, [Jefferon] wrote: "My bill proposes:
"1. Elementary schools in every county, which shall place every householder within three miles of a school.
"2. District colleges, which shall place every father within a day's ride of a college where he may dispose of his son."
Naturally, in the ensuing 191 years since this letter was written, we've gone gender neutral and realized that empowering and educating daughters is just as essential, if not more so, than educating sons. But the whole "dispose of his son" thing gives me fond memories of past conversations with my own father regarding whether or not seek higher education :-)

If i could create a school....
It would teach one how to live the dual life between the 3rd and 4th dimensions. The 3rd dimension in which our capitalistic market resides, teaching how to thrive and prosper....so they can live fully in the 4th dimension, at one with time, fully living in the now
